When you contact us to report a possible leak, we will discuss and agree with you what we'll do when we get there.
On arrival, our engineer will discuss with you the brief you have provided and get any additional information they require. A visual inspection of the property will be carried initially, including familiarisation with the plumbing system. A plan of action will then be formulated from this initial inspection and communicated to you.
Our engineers are equipped with the latest methods and equipment available to locate a leak, including Acoustic Microphone equipment and Moisture Meters. These will be used in conjunction with each other to ensure the leak detection is as accurate as possible and to minimise disruption.
Once the leak has been found, we will discuss with you how best it can be accessed and fixed. The majority of repairs can be done same day, including replacing underground pipes buried in concrete screed.
Building Insurance Claims
Once the leak has been repaired, the system will be re-tested to ensure the repair is sound and to check for further leaks. If there are multiple leaks, further leak detection will be carried out.
Our engineer will then record all testing and findings, including photographs, in a report. The report can be used as part of a building insurance ‘trace and access’ or ‘escape of water’ claim.

How the Scheme Works
Your Responsibility: As the homeowner, you are responsible for replacing all the lead pipes inside your property boundary (including under your floors and inside your walls). You will need to hire a registered plumber or use an approved contractor like LRF Heating to do this.
The Water Company's Responsibility: Under the Lead Replacement Scheme, your local water supplier will usually replace their section of the pipe (from the property boundary to the mains water supply in the street) completely free of charge.
Once you have updated the pipework up to your boundary, the water company connects your new, safe pipe to the mains network.
